Isle of Man
Man Hours: 160,000
The 80 Megawatt combined cycle power station was constructed on the Isle of Man, close to the centre of the capital town of Douglas. This presented logistical and technical challenges for Fabricom. All pipe work was pre-fabricated at Fabricom’s facilities, including high pressure steam pipe work and ASME standard boiler parts. The installation demanded innovative construction methodology to meet a difficult programme, running concurrent with other infrastructure projects on the island and with other contractors on the site.
The plant is constructed on the footprint of the old Pulrose Power Plant and will provide clean, efficient energy for the islands’ residents as well as a possible source of export revenue. The aesthetic requirements of the project, allied to a largely indoor construction and restricted site space were contributing factors to the unique challenges that were overcome by the Fabricom team.
Fabricom is now building an impressive record of success on Power Projects, and Pulrose is a further demonstration of Fabricom’s capabilities.
